» What is Spirulina?

Spirulina is the name given to two types of microscopic blue-green algae - Arthrospira platensis and Arthrospira maxima. As a health supplement, Spirulina algae is higher in protein than any other food source, with a protein content 60-70 percent higher than most other food and nutritional products. Unlike other forms of protein, Spirulina is 85-95% digestible, one of the highest available. Spirulina is second only to dried egg supplment with regards to usable protein.

Even greater nutritional value can be found in its high concentration of vitamins, minerals and other beneficial nutrients which include essential fatty acids such as GLA, lipids, the nucleic acids (RNA and DNA), B complex, vitamin C and E, and phytochemicals such as carotenoids, chlorophyll, and phycocyanin.
