Astragalus is a herbaceous plant belonging to the pea family. It is native to Asia and is considered to be one of the most important herbs in traditional Chinese medicine.

It is the root of the Astragalus plant that is used medicinally and its extracts are often combined with other herbs such as ginseng.

Some of the known active constituents of Astragalus include flavonoids, free amino acids, trace minerals and polyphenols.
