What is the Thyroid gland and what does it do?
The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland in the neck whose job it is to produce hormones that regulate many of the body's essential functions, including metabolism (the conversion of calories from food into energy) . In simple terms, the body takes iodine from certain foods in order to convert it into the thyroid hormones, thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). The thyroid cells are the only cells in the body that can absorb iodine. In these cells, iodine is combined with the amino acid l-tryosine to make T4 (thyroxine). T4 is then converted, with the help of numerous co-factor nutrients (such as selenium and magnesium), into the biologically active hormone T3 (triiodothyronine), which is transported throughout the body via the bloodstream helping to regulate many vital functions in the body, including metabolism, body temperature, brain function, digestion, heart function and muscle control.

What is T4 to T3 conversion?
Many people have heard of thyroxine (T4) but few are aware that this must be converted into triiodothyronine (T3) in the body. T3 is the most active form of thyroid hormone that the body can use. The conversion of T4 to T3 requires a range of essential micronutrients and takes place in the thyroid, liver, heart, muscles, nerves and even the microbiome. In particular, the deiodinases are selenium-containing enzymes that are used for synthesis of T3. Many factors can either hinder or support the conversion of T4 to T3, including stress, elevated oestrogen, nutrient deficiencies, poor microbial balance in the gut, inflammation and immune dysfunction.

What is Gum Guggul?
Gum guggul is a natural resin extracted from the mukul myrrh tree native to India, as well as some parts of northern Africa and central Asia. The tree and its yellowish sap or gum resin has been a significant component of Ayurvedic medicine for more than 3000 years. Research shows that this plant extract can help to support the healthy production of T3, with its health benefits being attributed to one of its active components called guggulsterone.

T-Convert also contains Zinc Picolinate to increase the absorbability of Zinc. Picolinic acid forms a complex with zinc which enhances absorption.

T-Convert is suitable for vegetarian and vegan diets if the capsule shell is not consumed.
