» Why do I need Iron?

In a nutshell; iron is a mineral essential for life. It plays a key role in many bodily processes.

A good balanced diet will provide you with enough iron to maintain optimal health however, certain circumstances may mean supplementation is advisable. Good dietary sources of iron include liver, meat, beans, nuts, dried fruit, wholegrains and most dark green leafy vegetables. The recommended daily intake of iron is 8.7mg a day for men and 14.8mg for women. A lack of iron in the diet can lead to a condition called anaemia.

Iron contributes to:

  • Cognitive function
  • Energy-yielding metabolism
  • The formation of red blood cells and haemoglobin
  • Oxygen transport in the body
  • The function of the immune system
  • The reduction of tiredness and fatigue
  • Normal cognitive development of children
