» Why do I need Chromium?
Contrary to what you might think, it's not for adding sparkle to your car. Chromium is a mineral our bodies use in small amounts to maintain normal bodily functions such as digesting food.
Chromium is mainly used by the body for moving blood sugar (glucose) from the bloodstream into the cells to be used as energy, together with fats, carbohydrates and proteins.
Chromium contributes to:
- The maintenance of normal blood glucose levels
- Normal macronutrient metabolism
Chromium can be found in many natural foods including meats, potatoes (especially the skins), cheeses, molasses, spices, whole-grain breads and cereals, and fresh fruits and vegetables. A well balanced diet will provide you with enough chromium to stay healthy but certain medical conditions may warrant the use of supplements.
