» What is Taurine?
Taurine is a free-form amino acid with many biological roles. It occurs naturally in food, especially seafood and meat.
Taurine is a surfactant, meaning it can lower the surface tension of a liquid. This enables it to travel more freely round the body.
Its name comes from the Latin ‘taurus,’ meaning bull or ox, as it was first isolated from ox bile in 1827 by German scientists Friedrich Tiedmann and Leopold Gmelin.
