» What is Hawthorn?

Hawthorn is a large family of shrubs and trees native to temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere in Europe, Asia and North America. The name 'haw' is an old English term for hedge and applies to the fruit of the Hawthorn.

It has a long history of use in traditional medicine and is still the centre of much research into its beneficial properties.

The active ingredients found in Hawthorn include tannins, flavonoids (such as vitexin, rutin, quercetin and hyperoside), OPC's such as epicatechin, procyanidin (including B-2) and phenolic acids such as caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid and related phenolcarboxylic acids.
