» What is Flax Seed Oil?

Flax Seed Oil, also known as Linseed Oil, is made from the dried ripe seeds of the flax plant (Linum usitatissimum, Linaceae).  It is one of the richest sources of Omega-3 or Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA), an essential fatty acid (EFA).  ALA contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels and because of this, it is often used as a nutritional supplement.

Flax Seed oil is an exceptional source of EFA's. We must obtain EFA's from our daily diet because, like some vitamins, we can't produce them on our own.

Flax Seed Oil has a 4:1 LA to LNA* ratio. It is important to balance your intake of EFA’s. If flaxseed oil is consumed for too long, without other oils, it may cause an Omega-6 deficiency.

To use Flax Seed oil, simply add to food to improve both the flavour and nutritional content. Take 1-2 teaspoons (5-10ml) daily.

Flax seed oil should not be heated because this will dramatically reduce its beneficial effects and destroy many of the essential fatty acids. Flax seed oil can be added to all foods once removed from direct heat.

Bob's Best Flax Seed Oil is processed at low temperatures, dramatically increasing shelf life. Providing the oil is stored correctly, it can be stored for up to 12 months. Rancid Flax seed oil is harmful. It is very important to store it correctly. Light, heat and air will damage your oil so keep it tightly capped in the refrigerator and consume within 10 weeks. Our oils are vacuum packed under nitrogen and while it is okay to let the oil reach room temperature it is always best kept cool.

8th century King Charlemagne believed so strongly in the health benefits of flaxseed that he passed laws requiring his subjects to consume it.
