» What is Astaxanthin?
Astaxanthin is a carotenoid (organic pigment). Carotenoids are found in plants and many other photosynthetic organisms.
Astaxanthin in particular is found in micro-algae, yeast, salmon, trout, krill, shrimp, crayfish and crustaceans and provides the red colour of salmon meat and cooked shellfish.
Most Astaxanthin supplements are derived from Haematococcus Pluvialis, a freshwater micro-algae.
The health benefits of Astaxanthin are many, most of them anti-oxidative related.
