The Black Cumin Seeds used to make our fragrant Pure Organic Black Seed Oil come from the Cumin plant (nigella sativa) which is part of the buttercup family. The seeds, also known as the 'blessed seed,' are thin and crescent-shaped before pressing and have been cherished for their health benefits for thousands of years, especially in the Mediterranean, Middle-East and India.

The aromatic qualities of the Black Cumin Seed have long secured its reputation as a health and beauty aid. It is rumoured to have played a part in Cleopatra's hair care regimen as a conditioning treatment, and was found among the many perfumes and scents sealed within the tomb of King Tutankhamen. Black Seed Oil can be used topically as a massage blend to soothe minor aches and pains, and to relieve discomfort caused by coughs, colds and headaches.

Black Cumin Seeds are filled with over 100 chemical compounds, the primary active ingredient of which is crystalline nigellone. They also contain a number of other beneficial nutrients such as thymoquinone (an antioxidant), beta sitosterol (cholesterol regulator), myristic acid (important fatty acid), vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B3, folic acid, calcium, iron, copper, zinc, and phosphorous and a host of other healthy fatty acids such as Linoleic acid (Omega -6) and Oleic acid (Omega -9).
