» What is Oregano?

Oregano is a perennial herb that grows approximately two feet high. It originates from the Mediterranean although it can be cultivated worldwide. For herbal treatments, both the leaves and the oil of the Oregano plant can be used.

Oregano Oil contains a whole host of beneficial constituents including carvacrol, thymol, borneol, rosmarinic acid, triterpenoids (ursolic and oleanolic acid), sterols as well as vitamins A & C.

Oregano can be taken in a variety of ways such as in a steeping tea, as an oil for topical use or in tablet form.

Beware though, as it’s easy to confuse Oil of Oregano with common oregano, the spice used for cooking.  The cooking spice is derived from the herb Origanum Marjoram, while Oil of Oregano is made from Origanum Vulgare. It’s also important to verify that the carvacrol concentration is at least 70%.

Did you know?

The ancient Greeks were one of the first peoples to recognize Oregano Oil for its health benefits and medicinal qualities.

Please note: Oregano Oil is strongly sedative and shouldn’t be taken in large doses.
