» Who doesn't love Dandelions?

Their big head of puffable seeds have enchanted children (and adults) for generations. I suspect, however, that many a gardener up and down the land is tutting and shaking their heads right about now. Most likely thought of as weeds, Dandelions can be the gardener's bane.

But before you unholster the weed-killer or whip out your hoe, spare that little yellow flower a thought. Dandelions have been helping to treat various complaints in us humans for hundreds of years, its use as a herbal remedy going back to Arabia of the tenth and eleventh centuries.

Dandelions contain a number of pharmacologically active compounds and have been used to treat infections, bile and liver problems, and as a diuretic.

The chief constituents of Dandelion root are Taraxacin, acrystalline and Taraxacerin (an acrid resin) inulin, gluten, gum and potash. It contains substantial levels of vitamins A, C, D, B-complex, iron, magnesium, zinc, potassium, manganese, choline, calcium and boron.

Now before you go dig up that Dandelion, remember our little chat. It will help you see that pretty little weed in a whole new light.
