Barley Grass - Superior New Zealand Source
What is Barley Grass?
Barley grass powder is made from the dried young leaves of the barley plant. It is not a type of grass. In the early stages of its growth, the barley plant is closer to vegetables in composition than grains, hence the name 'barley grass.'
As they grow, the nutritional value of the young barley grass deteriorates rapidly. It is in their young state, however, that barley grass contains the most nutrients. Organic green barley grass is considered to be a highly nutritious food in its own right; reportedly being an excellent source of vitamins, enzymes, amino acids, folic acid and essential minerals. It also contains chlorophyll, a vital element for feelings of general well-being.
Organic barley grass powder contains concentrated levels of these nutrients and minerals, all easy for our bodies to absorb.
Cereal grasses such as Green Barley have been found to be excellent sources of beta-carotene, vitamin K, folic acid, calcium, iron, protein and fibre, as well as good sources of vitamin C and many of the B vitamins, including B12. In addition, cereal grasses have been shown by studies to contain unidentified factors, which provide a variety of health, growth and fertility benefits to humans and animals. These unidentified factors have potent benefits, despite them not being attributable to any known nutrient.
There are no known toxic effects from eating organic barley grass.
A lot of Barley Grass powder comes from China where it is grown indoors in trays and harvested before it has had time to develop its full nutritional potential. Our Barley Grass powder is grown on New Zealand's sunny plains where it is given more time to develop before being cut and dried into leaf powder. The resultant product is bursting with goodness.
